Suitable solar land combines strong solar exposure with legally usable and controllable land, practical grid access, buildable terrain, acceptable environmental impacts and a realistic approval pathway. Proximity to a viable grid connection can be more important than marginal differences in solar irradiation.

A land parcel can appear large, flat and sunny but still be unusable because of its title, zoning, flooding, access, transmission route or connection cost. Early site screening prevents landowners and developers from committing time and money before fatal constraints are identified.
